St John’s social activities
Here at St John’s we are privileged to be able to reach out to the community including those of senior years. Here’s a rundown of what we offer. For all these gatherings, we have voluntary drivers who can provide transport.
For more information, please contact the church office.
Unfortunately, all church social activities are cancelled because of Covid-19 restrictions.
From 10am-11.30am every Monday the Grove Room in the church centre is open for tea and coffee. Everyone is welcome and there’s no need to book. Meet new people, catch up with old friends, enjoy relaxed conversations and maybe even indulge in a slice of home made cake.
It is just that, a chance to make friends, meet existing friends and have a chat over a cup of tea and biscuits. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month (2.30pm until 4.00pm) in the Church Hall, with up to 50 attending. It is for anyone, mostly retired, couples and people on their own. We have speakers on a variety of subjects. We also have day trips, an annual holiday and a superb Christmas luncheon each year. Come along and meet us – you’ll be very welcome.
The Lunch Club
On the third Tuesday of each month, at 12.40pm in the Church Hall, people gather for a time of food, fellowship and fun. A lunch of homemade soup, roll and cheese with delicious homemade puddings and coffee to follow is provided for a very small charge. Everyone enjoys the fellowship and the short talk, hymn and a prayer, as well as the chat and the raffle. Through the raffle, Lunch Club has been able to donate regularly to a number of good causes. Everyone is welcome.
Mainly 4 Men
On the second Tuesday of each month, at 7pm in the Church Hall, men of all ages are invited to come and enjoy a curry (or alternative) and interactive talks on a wide variety of subjects. Three times a year we open the doors for the ladies too in our Mainly for Everyone events, including our very popular Curry & Carols evening near Christmas. For more information click here.
The second Saturday of the month sees the Cahoots band playing in the Grove Room in the church centre for an evening of entertainment. Attended by young and old alike, the eclectic repetoire of music along with snacks and byo drinks is enjoyed by all. Doors open 7.30pm. There’s no charge for the evening. Just come along, bring a friend and enjoy songs you know and a few new ones as well. For more information click here.
