COVID-19: The building is closed, but the church is alive!

Choir

St John’s choir

St John’s enables children (from about the age of 7) and adults to sing wonderful music in a lovely setting. We currently have a 20-strong choir which sings in all four choral parts (Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Bass). We are affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music whose motto is “I will sing with the spirit and with the understanding also”. (1 Corinthians 14:15)

Our choir helps to lead worship at our Sunday 9.15am Holy Communion service which includes both traditional and contemporary music. As some members of the main choir are unable to attend all weddings and funerals, we are fortunate to have a separate wedding/funeral choir to support the worship on these occasions.

We encourage anyone interested to follow the RSCM’s Voice for Life training scheme which provides a framework for choral singers to develop their vocal skills, their musical understanding and their knowledge of repertoire.

We are always looking for new members: sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. Although useful, the ability to sight read is not essential. Choir practice takes place on Fridays at 6.15 in the church, lasting about an hour. Why not come along one Friday?
